It is with sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr. Troyer. I can remember him at our home ( Wiliam L. Brown, Pioneer Hi-Bred. ) He held a special place in my father's life. I ordered a book this week that my father wrote with Henry A. Wallace and there within was an inscription by your father. With my condolences, alicia brown-matthes

Troyer Family,

My condolences on the passing of this family member. I worked for the Barnes and Noble in DeKalb, IL. I first met him when he and Joyce came in to my store. He was there to purchase several copies of Origin of Species for a lecture he was giving in Minnesota. He explained he gave them away at the end of the lecture and could not think of a better prize for attending. Even better than listening to him talk. He was always kind and funny. I looked for him every summer after that. I last saw him this past fall when he was in for a book to read. I inquired about Joyce because I had never seen him without her. He shared he had lost the love of his life and was now resigned to quiet and eating canned soup for lunches. This was the last time he came in.

He was always kind to me and I loved his sense of humor.

Sincerely,

Patsy Reuscher

Forrest hired me to work at Pfizer Genetics in 1979. He was an amazing source of knowledge about plant breeding and his dedication to the art then and for his entire life was an inspiration to me. I always looked forward to checking in with him at the ASTA meetings and hearing what his latest project was. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with the family. Forrest will be missed by the entire plant breeding community.

Anne, Barb, and Cathy...We were so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. We did enjoy having him with us for the infamous "Soup and Movie Night" on occasion at Lucy's. May you feel God's comfort in the days ahead.

I met Forrest many years ago at the annual dry corn miller's conference in Peoria. I always looked forward to seeing him in subsequent years. Besides our common interest in corn, we always chuckled about a corn miller from Marion meeting a corn breeder from LaFontaine 5 hours away in Peoria. He was a professional dynamo and well liked colleague. I am sorry for your loss.

I never had the chance to get to know Forrest. But the many wonderful stories that Barb has shared about her dad over the years have given me a glimpse into the life of this very special person. My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Troyer family.
Claudia.

Forrest was a dedicated corn breeder who was innovative and very productive. He was always willing to share his ideas freely and stayed connected to corn breeding through out his retirement. He was never afraid to ask questions and learn new knowledge, even during his retirement.

I wish the family condolences and comfort at this time of loss.

Sincerely,

My Condolences to the family and friends on the passing of Dr. Troyer. We'll sure miss this resident expertise here in DeKalb, and I'll miss seeing the little black Toyota with the Dr. Corn License Plates buzzing around town!

Many of us in the NIU Life Long Learning program will miss Forrest, his insight, and his stories. True to his nature, he continued his "studies" with us in our classes. He went beyond seed corn to a great variety of subjects, always with something to offer. Sincere condolences on his loss to his family.

Dr. Forrest Troyer was a kind and generous alumnus and brilliant scientist. A friend to many at the University of Illinois, his passion for plant breeding was contagious and inspiring. It was a pleasure to be a part of many discussions in recent months about his book. I hope it can be published posthumously. With respect and regards to the family, He will be missed.

Dear extended Troyer family,

I first met Forrest when I was a young Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois in 1986, and it was a pleasure to me to interact with Forrest through my years with a seed company, as a professor at Purdue, and now as professor at the University of Minnesota. Forrest was a gem of a man, a true scholar, a gentleman, and a loving husband to Joyce. He left this earth better than he found it, and he will truly be missed.

May God bless, comfort, and strengthen you during your time of loss.

Sincerely,

Rex Bernardo
