Richard Lawrence Bird,72, Wabash, passed away at 12:07 pm on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Wabash County Hospital. He was born on March 8, 1939 in Wabash to the late Lawrence W. and Kathryn Arnold Bird.

He graduated from Wabash High School in 1957. He attended Miami University of Oxford in Oxford, OH. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wabash. He served our Country in the United States Navy. Richard owned and operated Wabash Abstract, retiring in 2001. He was the current trustee for Matlock Cemetery. He was currently a member of Kiwanis and also served on the Marketplace committee. Richard enjoyed skiing, fishing, canoeing, playing tennis, and the great outdoors.

Richard was an accomplished Eagle Scout. He was currently serving as Troop Treasurer and the Institutional Representative for Troop 429 at First United Methodist Church. He had previously served at Scoutmaster. He was described as the "glue" that held the scouting together at the Church.

He is survived by a sister, Martha Bird of Wabash.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11 am at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash, IN 46992, with Rev. Kurt Freeman officiating. Calling will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 9 am until the time of service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Matlock Cemetery in Wabash County, Indiana.

Preferred memorials are to the Boy Scouts of America or to the Oncology Dept. of Wabash County Hospital.
