Obituary

Rex Ray Wuerthner, 75, of rural Wabash passed away at 8:52 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born to the late Chester Ray and Myrtle (Armold) Wuerthner on September 15, 1936 in Jasper County, Indiana. Rex graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1954, attended Purdue for 1 year and graduated from Ball State University with a major in Industrial Arts and a minor in Physical Education. He is survived by his wife Carol "C.D." Knapp, who he married on November 22, 1962. He retired from teaching at Marion Community Schools after 34 years and  he was a life long farmer. He served his country in the National Guard. He was a member of Sunnycrest United Methodist Church of Marion, Indiana. Rex was a generous person who would give the shirt off his back or  his last dime to anyone need.  He loved farming, gardening, teaching, coaching, Purdue, camping and his family. Rex was proudly inducted into the Rensselaer High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. His grandchildren referred to him as Grandpa T-Rex. Along with his wife C.D., he is survived by three daughters, Corinne R. Wuerthner ( Miguel Delatorre) of Longmont, Colorado, Mrs. Greg (Rachelle C.) Angerman of Crownpoint, Indiana and Mrs. Jeff (Chandra L.) Bentley of Fishers, Indiana; brother, Robert Wuerthner (Sally) of Rensselaer, Indiana; sister, Mrs. Tom (Bonnie) Papazoglou of Lynchburg, Virginia; two grandchildren, Evan Alan Angerman and Graham Wyatt Bentley; and step grandson, Jorge Delatorre. Service will be 10 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, 1921 W. Bradford Street, Marion, Indiana 46952. Officiating the services will be Rev. Charles D. Ternet. Burial will follow in the LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940.
