Raymond Rowe, 90,Wabash, passed away 9:10 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center, in LaFontaine, Indiana. He was born to the late John and Manilla (Mullins) Rowe on Dec. 20, 1921 in Hellier, Kentucky, he was raised in Pike County, Kentucky.
He married Hazel Dollarhide on December 23, 1950 in Pikeville, KY. They have been married for 61 yrs., she survives. Raymond retired from US Gypsum of Wabash, now known as Thermafiber. He had previously worked in the Coal Mines of Kentucky and then at Ford-Kaiser Aircraft Company. He served his country in the United States Army for 3 1/2 yrs., during the Invasion of Normandy- WWII.
Along with his wife Hazel, he is survived by two sons, Donald Rowe (Tammy) of Ft. Myers, FL and Roy Rowe of Wabash, Indiana; three daughters, Donna Rowe Bechtold of Lincolnville, IN, Eunice (Don) Gresham of Lakeland, Florida, and Betty (Joe) Greco of Lakeland, FL; two brothers, Ruben Rowe (Brenda) of Wabash, Indiana and Russell Rowe (Mary) of Sweetser, Indiana; 13 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son- Freddy Ray Rowe, granddaughter- Lisa Rowe, a brother, Robert Rowe, and six sisters, Rachel Rook, Ruby McGuire, Ruth Counts, Roxie Duty, Reba McCullough, and Rhoda Cochran
He was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church, Marion, IN, where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a prior Member of VFW Post 286 Wabash.
Service will be 2:00 pm on Friday, April 20, 2012 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992. Officiating the services will be Pastor Charles Sluss. Burial will follow in the Friends Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to V.F.W. Post 286, 1 Veterans Lane, Wabash, IN 46992.
