Melba Custer, 65, rural Wabash passed away at 5:04 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012  at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born to the late Henry L. and Annetta M. (Enders) Johnson on August 31, 1946 in Bremen, Indiana. She graduated from Southwood High School in 1964, then Indiana State University in 1968 with a degree in Medical Technology. She married Tommy Joe Custer on July 9, 1977, he passed away April 15, 2011. She retired from the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Indiana. She was a member of the Medical Technology Group and American Society of Chemical Pathologist International. Melba enjoyed her flowers, fishing, and mushroom hunting. She is survived by four brothers, Lloyd E. Johnson (Janet) of South Bend, Indiana, Frank L. Johnson of Wabash, Indiana, Garrah Johnson (Patricia) of Wabash, Indiana,  and William R. Johnson (Marsha) of Wabash, Indiana; four sisters, Lela M. Neff (Thomas B.) of McConnelsville, Ohio, Margaret I. Dobbs of Destin, Florida, Harriet A. Sloop of Elkhart, Indiana, and June Johnson of Wabash, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Johnson and sister, Goldie Bennett, along with her parents and husband. Services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012 at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Avenue, Wabash, Indiana 46992. Officiating the services will be Pastor Guy Provance. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Wabash County, Indiana. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
