Larry Allen Decker, rural Wabash, passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at 10:14 am at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after a brief illness.
He was born September 26, 1939 in Peru, In, to Dallas Edward and Catherine V. (Gambee) Decker. He married Judy Jacobs on November 18, 1961. She survives.
Along with his wife he is survived by a daughter, Kimberly (Mike) Gangstad of Carmel, IN; 3 sons, Dale Allen Decker, Russel (Brenda) Decker, Kyle (Teresa Bishop) Decker, all of Wabash; 4 Grandchildren, Dalen Allen (Rachael) Decker of Kailua, Hawaii, Clay Gangstad of Carmel, and Kelsey and Heather Smith of Wabash; one brother, Henry A. (Sue Karen) Decker of Wabash; Brother and Sister-in-law Jerry (Gerry) Jacobs of Hurricane, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are "special family," daughter, Michele (Todd) Hollingshead of Wabash; 2 Grandsons, Brandon (Kristen Fey) Schaff of Fort Wayne, and Nick (Ashley) Hollingshead of San Diego, CA; Great-Grandson, Jaxon Hollingshead of San Diego, CA.; Good Friend and Neighbor, Harold G. Bowman of LaFontaine.
Mr. Decker attended Wabash High School.
He served in the Marine Corp in peaceful times and was very proud of his grandsons Dalen and Nick, who are currently serving in the Marine Corp.
He retired from GenCorp in Marion in 2001 after 35 years. Then he worked for Precision Battery from September 2005 until February 2008.
He loved reading, gardening, WWII history, and old movies. He was a fan of New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers. He especially liked attending Brickyard and Nascar races with his good friend Ron Korba. Larry was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and helping with V.B.S.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 10 am at McDonald Funeral Home, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash, with Pastor Phillip Lake officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wabash.
