Gene M. Smith, 94 of Somerset, Indiana passed away at 11:01 p.m. on Monday, November 12. 2012 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine, Indiana. He was born to the late Irven and Madge (Malsberry) Smith on December 3, 1917 in Wabash County-Waltz Township, Indiana. He was a graduate of Somerset High School and attended Manchester College. He married Mary Miller on June 21, 1941, she passed away on December 31, 1999. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He co-owned the Somerset Hardware Store and delivered bottle gas. He was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Somerset, Indiana. He was also a member of American Legion Post 15 of Wabash, Indiana, Wabash County Sherriffs Reserve, and LaFontaine Masonic Lodge, formerly a member of Somerset Masonic Lodge. He is survived by son, Danny Smith (Vickie) of Alabama; two daughters, Shelby Smith of Somerset, Indiana and Charlene Wingert of Avon, Indiana; grandchildren,  Rick Schmalzried (Andrea) of Plymouth, Indiana, Mrs. Jay (Ellen) Tung of Belmont, California, Ty Ezell (Ginger) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jarred Hudson of West Virginia, and Shane Smith (Casey) of Houston, Texas; and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Mississinewa Cemetery in Somerset, Indiana, with Pastor Ted Batson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mississinewa Cemetery in Somerset, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 150 N 2nd St, Somerset, Indiana 46984.
