Edwin Dale Harness, 74, LaFontaine, passed away at 11:14 am on Friday, January 7, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Lucasville, Ohio on October 5, 1936 to John B. and Emma Hazel (Noel) Harness.
Edwin was raised in Lucasville where he left to enlist in the Army in 1954. He served his country for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1957. On August 10, 1957 he married Gale L. Clark in Brookville, Indiana. She survives. In 1961 he went to work at Fisher Body and retired from there in 1991 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 368, Van Buren, and was also a member of the Sympathy Club. Edwin enjoyed gardening and spending time at home with his family. He will be sadly missed by his best friend, Milo.
Along with his loving wife of 53 years, he is survived by one son, David (Carol) Harness of Marion, IN; 2 daughters, Connie (Willis) Dunnagan Jr. of LaFontaine; and Linda (Jeff) Bowman of Jalapa; 2 brothers, Russell Harness of Lucasville, OH; and Harold Harness of Marion; 1 sister, Jean Ervin of LaFontaine; a special sister-in-law, Carole Burns also of LaFontaine; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Marie Harness in 1984, a grandson, Matt Dunnagan in 2004, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 11:00 am at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, IN 46940 with family providing the eulogy. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 4 pm until 8 pm at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, IN 46940. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory, Huntington County.
Preferred memorials can be directed by St. Jude Research Hosptial in care of the funeral home.
