Dorothea Elizabeth Melick Weaver, 99, of Marion, passed away at 3:10 am at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine on Saturday, November 12, 2011. She was born on January 9, 1912 to the late Edward and Sarah (Morts) Oyler near Somerset, IN.
She married Oliver Melick on April 25, 1931. He passed away October 4, 1971. On November 29, 1980 she married Joe Weaver. He passed away December 10, 1982.
She graduated from Banquo High School in 1930 where she played the violin in the high school orchestra. She was a member of Boundry Line Church of Christ and a member of the LaFontaine Literacy Club since 1951. She worked at Troyer Library for three years. After selling her home in LaFontaine, she purchased a home in Sweetser, later moving to Marion. She enjoyed volunteering at Marion General Hospital for 22 years where she belonged to the Marion Hospital Axillary for 15 years. She also enjoyed oil painting.
She is survived by three daughters, Frances Elaine Stout, Windfall, IN; Carmen (Willis) Cole, West Palm Beach, FL; LaVon (Jerry) Wert, Largo, FL; a daughter in law, Donna Lamkin, Dublin, TX; a step son, Leland (Jackie) Weaver, PA; a step daughter, Elaine (Terry) Martin, Ft. Myers, FL; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Along with her husband and parents, she is preceded in death a son, Merle D. Melick, who passed away December 18, 1995; 4 sisters, Lois Bolinger, Frances Frick, Ellen Reed, and Kathryn Kem; 2 brothers, Howard and Merritt Oyler: and a great great grandson.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 10 am at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, IN 46940, with Bro. Don McCarty and Pastor David Stout officiating. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 4pm until 7pm at McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, LaFontaine.
Memorial Contributions may be made to New Hope Hospice in care of the funeral home.
