(Mcvicker) Mendoza
February 10, 1953 – April 22, 2011
Cathy Jean Mendoza, 58, LaFontaine, passed away at 3:34 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2011 after a short but brave battle with a rare lung disease. She died peacefully with love in her heart and surrounded by family. Her last days were filled with the strength and laughter for which she was known.
Cathy was born on February 10, 1953 in Wabash, Indiana to Joe McVicker and Bonnie (Reed) McVicker-Dale. She married Robert A. Mendoza on August 17, 1973, he survives. She has three lovely children, Jacob (Laura) Mendoza of Chicago, Isaac (Angie) Mendoza of Noblesville and Letitia (Adrian) Poe of LaFontaine; six grandchildren, Jack and Callie Mendoza, Franco and Ava Mendoza, and Courtlin and Elias Poe. Other survivors include her mother, Bonnie (Roger) Dale of Wabash; sister, Melody (Robert) Deal of Camarillo, California; and brother, Tim (Pam) McVicker of Roann. Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Joe McVicker, sister, Vicki McVicker and several Aunts and Uncles.
Cathy was a stay-at-home mom until her children entered school. She was a Southwood High School graduate of 1971. She was a tutor at Southwood High School for several years before pursuing a nursing degree. She graduated with honors from Lutheran College of Health Professions of Fort Wayne, obtaining an RN degree in 1997. Cathy most recently worked at Grant-Blackford Mental Health where she leaves many dear friends. Cathy was an avid reader. She loved the changing of the seasons, especially springtime when she could see flowers bloom and plants grow. She loved her family deeply.
A celebration of Cathy's life will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the LaFontaine United Methodist Church, 2 W. Kendall Street, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940, with Pastor Larry Ray officiating. Preferred memorials are to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
